Practical Tips For Emotional Digestion
Do you struggle with understanding your emotions? Here are some things I’ve found helpful that I offer to my clients. I learned much of these strategies through teachers and years of self-study!
Learning to use the 5 senses properly (this can heal disturbed emotions). Restoring proper use of the senses will balance your doshas and agni, and support you in having a healthy relationship with the gunas of rajas, tamas, and sattva (in the Western language your nervous system).
Develop a yoga practice over time that is practiced in a sattvic manner (conscious breathing and not pushing yourself far past your edge in any direction). Supports a healthy balance of emotions. *** soothing to the nervous system.
Take a short walk in the sunlight and wear a hat if you are out in the summertime. Pitta time is at its highest midday so when the sun is very strong be weary not to overheat yourself.
Have primarily a sattvic diet of whole fresh foods, freshly cooked and with a sattvic attitude.
Get good quality and an appropriate quantity of sleep. Going to bed by 10 pm (at the very latest) and getting up by 6 am. This can help everyone feel a lot better and give you the most energy throughout the day.
Honour the natural urges of the body and ignore those of the mind (eg. cravings). ***If you haven’t heard this before, think about it. We need to allow the body to expel what it needs to expel, just because the mind says it wants something doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. That body has more wisdom than we think!
Ayurveda has all kinds of treatments-Panchakarma, marma therapy, and the use of herbs (using these approaches in tandem with the following tips can support you in cultivating balance, especially if administered properly). Try these little steps first and let your body guide you into wellness.
Balance in how I am describing can show up in ways such as good health, happiness, and longevity. Spending time with people who are positive and uplifting, where you can practice and learn to be more yourself also makes the world of difference.
As you begin doing these things to elevate your vibration by coming to balance, then you can inspire others to do the same. It can become all too easy to get caught up in caring what other people think, but try your best to rise above all of that. Trust in yourself and the progress you’re making. It always sorts itself out.
Ayurveda is a holistic science where we apply principles to an individual at a point in time, rather than a one-size fits all approach. *** We need to retrain ourselves and our thinking. Keep things simple. Live moment to moment. Accept that all is well right now so that our future can continue with the same attitude and in the same way.
Let go of the past and allow the energies of fear, worry, and anxiety to show up without non-judgement (watch these mood states come and watch them go). Pay attention to sensations in the body so the felt-sense experience of these difficult emotions can be released. Let your prana flow!
